Picture this. It’s the busiest time of your year; your work is stacked in higgeldy piggeldy piles around you, your phone beeps with reminders every second minute, and, to top it all off, every time you step out, the Mumbai sun seems intent on sizzling you like bacon. You sit at your desk, deaf to the incessant phone calls for a moment, dreaming of a Goa vacation; sun, sand, the sea and a nice cold beer. But all you have to spare is a couple of hours, Goa is way out of reach…Or is it?

Enter Café by the Beach, a café just next to Chowpatty beach, Mumbai. Tables, chairs, couches and swings are spread out on a carpet of sand under tall palm trees that shield you from the scorching sun. The sound of waves accompanies the classical music scores. Statues of a smiling, tranquil Buddhas scattered around the restaurant…
