Our journey to Amritsar started way up in the hills of McLeod Gang, which meant a descent that played havoc with my ears. I managed to catch a cold within a day of our stay in McLeod Gang, and whether it was the cold weather or the travel involved in getting there, I’m not sure – but it took about two weeks to shift! The end result was that I became largely deaf for the majority of this journey.

Our journey to Amritsar was split into two parts, a bus journey and then a short 2.5 hour train to Amritsar, our first (and only) stop in Punjab. There is a free bus from the train station to the Golden Temple, which we hopped on; luckily it was relatively empty, although we saw other buses heading to the temple and they were rammed full of people and luggage.
