The inaugural #tbt destination is the Khumbu Region of Nepal. Home to the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest, this region is chock full of jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring vistas. Lonely Planet has listed it as the #6 region to visit in it’s ranking of the Best in Travel of 2015. If ever there was a place where the verb “astound” could be freely used, the Khumbu Region would be it.

Of course, I would love to hike to Everest Base Camp (or maybe even further) but the Khumbu is so much more than just a mountain. It’s hundreds of peaks and valleys. Countless high-altitude passes. The confluence of two continental tectonic plates, a (geologically-speaking) fast moving subduction zone prone to earthquakes. Home of the Sherpa, the Khumbu has a distinct cultural feel, strongly Tibetan; and the fluttering prayer flags seem to decorate anything and everything. Supposed Yeti scalps and hands…
